Letter

Writing a letter to request a removal of membership is a personal decision. Each person will use a slightly different approach. Because we were in dialogue with many people in our local SDA church regarding the reasons why we were no longer attending, my wife and I decided to send a very simple letter.

Attached below is the actual text of the letter we sent to request that our names be dropped (minus the actual name of the church):

We write to request that our names be removed from membership in the Seventh-day Adventist denomination.

For quite some time, we have been communicating with our Adventist family and friends, both at the [_______] church and throughout the country, to answer questions related to our decision not to attend at the [_______] church. Following this season of communication, we find that we have received sufficient feedback in order to make this important decision. Accordingly, we have determined that now is the right time to bring the theological debate to a close and to move forward in our efforts to fulfill the great commission. As we do so, the SDA denomination, and the [_______] church in particular, will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you in advance for handling this request promptly and discretely.
